3DS could pull it off this year, or least be damn close. It's a difficult comparison though, because the PS Vita price drop and flush of software releases has definitely had an impact on Nintendo's 3DS business. 3DS has been steadily below 80k per week since early March, which isn't encouraging if we're looking for the console to break 100+k per week.
It will be very interesting to see the impact of Luigi's Mansion on hardware and software sales. I predict a large increase in hardware/software, but with the lack of a bundle, I have my doubts that it will bring 3DS hardware over 100k in it's debut week.
Monster Hunter 4 and Pokemon X/Y seem far more likely to cause dramatic increases on hardware sales than Luigi's Mansion or Shin Megami. I see Luigi and Megami as merely stopping the bleeding and helping sales remain steady.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.
