I group up with NES and SNES, and was a huge fan, subscribing to Nintendo Power, the works. Never owned a N64 and never touched a GameCube. I thought I would never again pick up a Nintendo product, but Wii drew me back with innovation, style, several killer games and the virtual console.
More recently 360 had taken over as my system of choice, but I picked up a Wii U at Christmas and it has pretty much taken over everything. A barely turn on my PC and my XBox hasn't seen a single power up. My smartphone surfs the net a lot more at home. I can just to 90% of my online activity on Wii U. Having both 3rd party games like COD and 1st party games on one system, being able to surf the net, check facebook or watch youtube all from a tablet-HDTV-suround sound connected setup sitting on my couch is amazing. Having the tablet interface makes going back to XBox almost seem as archaic as going back to SD Wii from HD 360. It's hard to believe, but it feels like that big of a shift in gaming convenience.
I'm a fan of Nintendo. Doesn't mean I don't buy other systems, too (in the last decade I have 2 XBoxes, 2 PS, 2 Nintendos) but I do enjoy the products Nintendo makes. I really enjoy their software. When Nintendo is at their best, few developers can compete. Despite my love of HD visuals, my two favorite games of the last gen are Super Mario Galaxy and Xenoblade. Both are works of art. I expect to enjoy many of their upcoming games.
