Price
Marketing
Delivering value

Thats really it but finding the right price, marketing strategy and how to continue to deliver value is really tough. It also helps a lot if a competitor screws up any one of these three things.

Both price & marketing are proven False factors.

The PS2 sold at $300 and well at that.

The 3DS took 1 month to sale more then 3 million at $250, and the only reason the price drop was because of "Stolk Holders" and no other reason. The PSP sold far less better at $250.

Delivering value is the only accurate thing there..........i.e. PS2 & 3DS.

3D TVs have also sold more then HD TV for:

1st year sales

2nd year sales

3rd year sales

You get the idea.

I did not say cheapest nor did I say you can do just one of these things.  All three need to be done.

Marketing is very important as its how you let consumers know about your product.  They don't know about it they wont buy it.  To say marketing does not play a role in a consoles success is delusional.

The 3DS has done the littlest of marketing, and so do a lot of 3D movies, but the 3D movies make #1 in the box office with a fraction of the marketing as 2D movies. (i.e. Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters 3D & Jack the giant Slayer 3D).

The DSi has had more marketing, and the PS vita marketing has been so much greater, with even free giveaways around release at Taco Bell which also advertise the PS vita, let alone all the PS Vita ads by themselves. The 3DS has done a fraction of a fraction of the marketing compare to any other Nintendo System ever release, let alone a fraction of a fraction of the marketing compare to PS vita.

2D does much more marketing then 3D in movies, but the 2D movies make a fraction as much money as the 3D movies, and we have seen similar with the 3DS vs. any 2D system, as well as HD TVs vs. 3D TVs, where the 2D product has clearly done so much much more marketing, but falls behind in how much it sales compare to the 3D product. (even HD TVs marketing compare to 3D TVs marketing, but 3D TVs make so much more sales.......and also over 99% of the worlds TVs manufacture today are 3D TVs, so they really need to unload the remaing 2D TVs at stores)
