That was a pretty steep drop off for Ascension compared to 3, considering that both were on the market for the same amount of time in both the US and Europe. So much for people thinking it might sell less being "delusional". |
In this case, I wouldn't take anything regarding its sales as concrete. Bear in mind the game had bundles, which doesn't seem to be reflected in the hardware at all.

Wouldn't it still have been a big drop even if ALL the PS3's sold this week were the GOW bundles? Granted, considering the sales accuracy around here lately, I can understand being skeptical. :p
It'd be nice if Sony puts out sales numbers themselves like SE did for Tomb Raider and Blizzard did for the Starcraft expansion.

Oh, I have no doubt that Ascension saw a substantial drop from III, but with the hardware not seeing an uptick for the week, one has to wonder just how big (or small) the reduction may actually have been.

That's true, but I honestly don't expect the bundle to have as big an impact either. It's not like back in '09-'10, when they had just released the Slim at $300 and could really tap into pent-up demand. Most people who wanted the game probably have PS3s at this point.

Just...no. Just look at how Call of Duty bundles push Xbox 360 sales. This has been proven false with each Modern Warfare and Halo release. There are always people looking for a console to play a God of War or a Halo or a Call of Duty. ALWAYS.
