I tend to be the 'fun uncle' to both bio and adopted family. So I get to entertain with kids. We all have a pretty good time. These are the ones that they tend to enjoy, request, and play the most. I put stars on my top 3:

Happy Action Theater and Kinect Party, a bunch fun of 'mini game experiences' ***best for kids***
Kinect Fun Labs - many things, most are free, Bobbleheads, Build a Buddy, Air Band, Googly Eyes, and especially, "I am Super" **super great for kids**
Kinectimals, now with Bears!
Kinect Disneyland Adventures
Sesame Street Kinect
Fruit Ninja Kinect
Nat Geo (National Geographic Kinect.)
Kinect Star Wars - kids LOVED it. *great for kids*
Lego games - Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc.

If they are a little bit older they seem to love, Fable II, Plants vs Zombies, and Viva Pinata

And the Mars Rover Landing Kinect (part of Kinect Fun Labs) game is still cool if you can get it.

Edit added a few Fun Labs Games, and connect that Mars Rover Landing was part of it.

^this

i dont care how much you detest xbox and kinect yourself if you have kids its worth getting.  buy it used so you can keep your  sony were #1 position and not add to vgchartz numbers.  lol

I would rather kill myself before i let my kids play those games.
I myself started with Zelda,Super Mario Games,Secret of Mana,Mega Man,Donkey Kong and in general 2 player platformers,Breath of Fire and stuff.
When the PS1 got released i was 6 or 7 years old(95 or 96 was the release date in EU?) and i nearly played already all the good games from the NES and SNES...Continued with Ridge Racer,Tekken and other great PS1 Franchises and till i moved out around in the middle/end of the PS2 Era i played nearly everything together with my parents or at least they liked to watch or i watched them playing.

You see the difference? This was quality gaming and such a big choice directly from the first years of my journey.
Everyone around my age(+- a few years) had the exact same experiences - If i ask someone they will know all those games.

There has to be something like that on current Gen consoles.
Something that will forge and steer you kids into a bright future of gaming where they have an insanely good taste in games.
If you have the choice get all the PS2 Collections and buy the crap out of the PSN and the Classic games there.
Get something like NiNoKuni and play it TOGETHER WITH THEM.Get them interested in reading, loving stories and building their fantasy.
Play with them SNES games and stuff on PC Emulators if you don't have the actual consoles...Gamepads from PS360 work on PC or aren't that expensive anyway.
You still have the chance to lead them and show them a pool of awesome games.
Don't know why kids should get interested in Kinect - If you want to move your body go out and play with them some ballsports or something else.
This will only let them turn into future casuals.
