Well the Xbox had Halo and XBL which at the time and up intill recently was the best online service on the consoles (in many cases still is and would be if they would put a free to play like PSN)

The PS2 was coming out the hot heels of the PS1 success and had giant momentum going into that generation and add the DVD played built in with it was final nail each of the others coffin.

The Gamecube struggles came from the lack of N64 sales/fans and had almost no momentum going into the 6th generation so even if they had done everything perfect i doubt it would have mattered just from the sheer hype behind the PS2 (I do however believe that if they would have came out at the same time and Nintendo would have added the DVD player, the sales of the PS2 would have been far less, going maybe a few million over the PS1.)

All in all the Wii U is in a drought atm,a very deep drought and Nintendo has not done alot right with the console thus far but i do believe that when the software starts rolling in that sales will pick up and be strong most of this generation and if this happens 3rd parties support will roll in and add a more solid foundation under the Wii U. For all you naysayers that are counting this system as good as dead the proof is in the 3DS which atm is sell like hotcakes everywhere.
Just remember Sony fans a $300 console is more attractive to consumers then a $450 to $500 and if the PS4 has this same drought it will not so easily pick itself out of it with that kind of price tag.

[PS i am not a Nintendo Fanboy as i own everything handheld and consoles including a gaming PC so dont count this off as a fanboy rant,Thanks]
