Combined this gens market bought 250 Million Consoles. Wii U is obviously not filling the gap that Wii, or PS2 before that, left so it must be done by Sony or MS or both together. Or the market has shrunk considerably. Doom Threads would dominate forums and websites everywhere, games would be cancelled. Developer would start to panic and shift their focus to mobile/pc. This would be literally the death of the console market its not like PS3/360 haven't seen massive declines by now. If PS4/720 sell 1.5 Million each within their first 6 months they are on the track to sell 5-25 Million LTD each, very very unlikely. If they sell that combined.. Thats like impossible. Wii U sells 25-30k/week that would mean PS4/720 selling 7-15k per week worldwide. Combined or each wouldn't even matter.
PS3 360 have an active fanbase which likely will all move to PS4/720 eventually. Wii died a long time ago. |
First off, please make sure your math is accurrate before commenting. 1/2-2/3 is 50% to 66%, not 50%-30%. Therefore that would be the equivalent of 1.75-2.3 million units shipped within 4 months (assuming Wii U hits at least 3.5 million shipped by months end). I do not forsee PS4 and 720 being able to push the same amount of console during the holiday season as Wii U but they will stabilize better than Wii U has which is why I put a high end of 66%.
The 360 and PS3 have just really began to pick up pace in the past few years which is why the WiiU was not able to meet Big N's expectations sales wise (cheaper consoles + substantial game library with AAA titles still releasing throught the year) and if you do not beleive that this will not affect the PS4/ 720 initially either then your dreaming in technicolour. A $400-$500 console plus limited game library is not going to sell substantialy in today's market at the initial launch.
Let's also not forget that the Wii U will have a worldwide price cut and a much better library when each system releases.
