That's not too bad for a Nintendo system.

NES: 62

SNES: 49

64: 33

GameCube: 22

I kind of agree, but instead of calling it "not too bad for a Nintendo system", I would call it: "what is normal for a Nintendo system".

My take on the WiiU is that Nintendo took a bet with the touch screen that by now has not taken off, and I personally don't see it taking off at all.

I feel that Nintendo needs to realize the position they have in gaming. The Wii got very big because of how the WiiMote expanded their userbase to a fleeting demographic. I feel the big mistake from Nintendo this gen was making this first console that made losses. This is why if Nintendo doesn't sell well they could face touble. How big the troubles? No one can tell for sure. In previous generations Nintendo has not sold the insane amount of consoles that Sony did, but that never stopped them by making profitable consoles, this is not the case with the WiiU.

What do I think Nintendo should have done? Either one of the two things:

1) Improve the WiiMote and take it to the next level instead of approaching gaming with the gamepad

2) Create another console that would have made pofit out of the gate and not care whether they would be the console to sell the most in the generation. They should have waited until they could provide another form of gaming that could attract casuals while making a machine that doesn't burn the money they've made

People are talking about waiting for the new WiiFit, WiiSports.... if those games are made to be played with the WiiMote and they are successful (which I doubt) it would be the undisputed truth that they should have stuck with the WiiMode and that the loss for the gamepad was unnecessary. If those games are meant to be played with the gamepad, I doubt they will sell.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:
