All PS3s are backward compatible with PS2 software.

^this. PCSX2 ftw. With motionjoy, you can use your ps3 controller too. Who cares about HHD collections when a lot of PCs can scale ps2 games to HD very easily

There's a lot of graphical effects that can't be emulated with a GPU right now, if ever.  So all that fancy lighting in Okami and Metal Gear don't show up, for instance.  You have to use software and no cpu out now can scale PS2 games to HD.
