It could have something to do with these dates:
March 4 2000 (Ps2) against September 2001 (GC) + November 15 2001 (X0)
Had Wii had same kind of launch against other consoles (no rival for 1½ years) and it would have, what, atleast 25 million consoles sold so...
That's just my 2 cent...
