For starters, the terms "casual" and "core" gamer are absurd. People play video games. Some play more than others. Some are more obsessed while some aren't. Some people don't ever play games. That's about how far it goes, in the adult world. These notions of whether you're a "Core gamer" or not, and what MAKES you a "core gamer", what doesn't, etc., is about as silly as the "you're not metal" statement in the heavy metal fan scene. It's childish bs, plain and simple. A lot of people can only AFFORD one console. So what in that implies whether or not they're a "core gamer" or not? It's just silly to even sit and think about. And considering that Nintendo is one of the oldest gaming companies, with some of the largest and oldest gaming franchises in the history of the industry, even if there WERE folks who exclusively play Nintendo published games.....how does that make them less of a gamer? That's the implication that comes across when you're talking about people being "core gamers" or not. It's almost like a popularity contest. But if you're GOING to go there, I would personally say that someone who is an old-school, long time Atari or Nintendo or Sega fan, is MUCH more of a "true gamer" than someone who only runs out and buys Halo or CoD or Assassin's Creed or whatever else is the "big hit" Gamestop release of the month. And just to be sure, even if this thread is really basing the term "hardcore" on how much time someone dedicates to gaming per week, well again, what does that have to do with how many consoles they own? A person could own one console but play the living shit out of it, while someone else could own every console available, and barely play any of them. It's all relative. Regardless, I just don't see why it matters whether anyone is considered a "Core" gamer or not. Maybe that's just me..... |
I read all thatm and I 100% agree. It's a silly notion, and most people can't afford more then 1 system. Nintendo is a respectable company, and for some people, they know that's all they need. RolStoppable is a great example of a Nintendo only "core" gamer.
Still those cases are uncommon.

I moreso made this thread to see how the "Yes, if that system is a PS3" option would light up. This forum is known to have a heavy Sony fanboy backing, and I just wanted to see how bad it was.
It really depends on the person. However I do think the term is relevant. Wii has 80% of the female console gamers of the last gen, and how many actually bought it for the games? My sister, who doesn't play video games, was considering buying a Wii and Wii Fit, but I talked her out of it because I told her as an exercise machine, it's nothing special, and it's more of a game. She then changed her mind, but my point is, there is a difference from someone like my sister, and someone like any one of us.
