He already did technically lose money. Purchased items at retail (system + games + sales tax) at X dollars, sold used for Y dollars, X-Y=loss (around $200), purchased new PS3 at retail instead of used. Instead of taking a financial loss, he could have purchased a used PS3 from a retailer, or found one with games included through craigslist or ebay for the same amount as the loss. If he would be purchasing new games for WiiU if they were available, the amount of money that would have been used for new games (if they were available) could cover a used PS3 with some games. I doubt there will be used WiiU Deluxe's that cheap even with a price cut due to many good games being out and holiday season (higher demand). I'm not saying getting a PS3 was a bad decision, just that trading a recently purchased item at a substantial loss, then purchasing a new PS3 at retail is a poor financial decision. |
At that moment you buy a product it will lose 20% of that money you paid-that's walk of live.I was referring to the future.
1)imo It was no mistake to buy a new ps3 as long as ps+ is included. You'll pay around 150 for a used ps3 and have to pay 40-50 for ps+.
Considering this:Buying a new ps3 incl. ps+ is definitivly not a poor financial decision ,especially when you consider the full warranty you don't get by buying a used console.
(selling wii u on ebay may have been a better deal than at the retailer)
2)now lets take a look at the future(pricecut):Considering Wii u to drop 25%-33%(just like n64 and 3ds did) the used wii u's will drop the same way(not in the first 2-3 weeks, but than )A new Wii u basic will cost almost the same a new ps3 does.therefore a used wii u should be almost as expensive as a used ps3.
Will there be a ps3 price drop?
I don't think so.Sony and Microsoft know some people may buy the ps360 instead of their new consoles as soon as the price difference gets too huge-and as the old consoles are selling well, there is no need for a pricecut.
No pricecut= he can sell his ps3 for 150-160 and buy a wii u for 180-190=playing 8-10 month and having a difference of 20-30 dollar is not what I 'd call-loss of money-,especially not if you consider the 50-80 games he will get for free from ps+.
