You should have hold on to the Wii U and saved up money for a PS3. Or, you shouldn't have sold your old PS3 to buy a new console that you apparently didn't want (yet). In the end you're pretty much back where you started but with less money in your wallet.
Selling to Gamestop was your biggest mistake though.
