Because exclusives are what sets consoles apart. Multiplat are just that, you can get them regardless of what system you own.

not necessarily right - a lot of "multiplatform" titles haven been PS360 this gen, so Wii only users were not able to access these

Yeah, but on the flipside Nintendo had a lot of exclusives even though the majority of them werent gems. Nintendo not getting multiplats is their own fault and it always has been.

In a way that's true, but not in the way you mean.

@OP: I think fans of a single hardware manufacturer use exclusive games, metacritic scores, and game-of-the-year awards to defend their company of choice. It's propaganda, to be perfectly frank. If the conversation moved from "exclusive games" to just "games," we would all be a lot better off. But I think asking some people to look beyond the brand and celebrate the medium is too much.

Nintendo doesn't get multiplats because they don't give third parties what they want. Nintendo doesn't have those bondage-esque "must release at the same time" or "must have extra content if released later" contracts third parties seem to love.

Actually you have it backwards. Nintendo had third parties in bondage from the NES to the SNES period and had almost complete third party exclusivity dominance over Sega until Sony came into the industry and gave the third parties what they wanted. They wanted tech to push their ideas and games and Nintendo has never given that to them. Nintendo negotiates with no one if they cannot win the argument, plain and simple. Nintendo was very pushy with Rare as well if I recollect the documentary I saw about them their fall and rise to the top.

We're at now "now", not in the 80-90's.
