Sigh, like it or not the health of the PC market does depend on the cycle of the consoles, especially with "AAA" gaming. So it may be a very bad thing if the dedicated game market goes away because we will face stagnation with less new IP coming out and more sequels.
Ubisoft's president hit it on the head that most developers do not like trying new things in the middle of a console cycle, so there are benefits to a five year cycle of some sort. The PC market doesn't really have cycles are the developers make games for "average" denominator to maximize sales and that average moves slower then new tech comes out.
