I mean exactly what I'm writing; the dedicated handheld has no future and will go away. Like Arcades, Amiga, console add-on's with CD drives and other things of the past, its simply not going to exist within a few years as their market is being swallowed by others and the handheld becomes the "inbetweener". The recent sales of Brain Age are the crown example of this, and in due time this will be the rule rather than the exception.

Agreed. I´d say that even the home consoles are not going to exist in a decade, more or less. They´re suffering lower sales year by year too .

Console sales are suffering lower sales year by year because this generation has gone on way too long. Game and console sales have a hill like trend. Rise and fall. Right now, we're near the end of this generation so sales are falling. It'll pick up again once the new generation starts.

 

Handhelds are a different matter. I think that there's a permanent decrease in demand for them due to increased substitutes by smartphones. But handhelds still have a place for children and maybe countries like Japan where people commute a lot via public transportation.
