No. Nintendo makes the most affordable hardware, and by far the most dependable hardware. The only reason it's not the most powerful console is because competing companies sell at a loss as part of a larger corporation.
Also, you're making this blanket statement that 3rd parties aren't backing Wii U. It's false. Batman, AC, COD, Watch_Dogs are all there, and more is coming.
So from my perspective, Nintendo is the last company I would want to stop making hardware. On a Nintendo system I can expect a good price, low fail rate, Far and away the biggest 1st party library and most 3rd party. I would think it better that another hardware company bow out, let its corporate owned studios go independent like Bungie did, and have 3rd parties just focus more on the Nintendo platform. It would be easier for the industry and cheaper for us gamers. Makes sense, no? That's without even considering that Nintendo makes the world's most popular platform, DS/3DS.
