how long a system lasts before it's successor is released is not impressive. the longer the gap, the worse for gamers and the more money they are scrapping from us on old tech (i'm not saying old tech is worthless... but I'm saying it's about time to introduce new tech so gamers can enjoy both if they want). but how long it is supported (even after the next system is released) is impressive. I'm more interested to look at "support longevity" vs. "gap between system released".
as per support, so far ps2 killed it, and ps3 is looking promising. PS2 had great games coming out for it long after PS3 was released, and so far, the same year PS4 is to be released, we are still seeing a push for exclusives on the PS3! i.e. God of War, Last of Us, Beyond Two Souls, ... possibly Gran Turismo - i hope not... i want gran turismo on ps4... haha :)
however if the next xbox also comes out this year (which it should), there is already much less push for xbox360 new exclusives. Although I do not own a 360, I hope (for xbox fans) that they don't fade out the 360 as quickly as the original xbox. If everyone keeps up the competition, that's great for all gamers! :)
