Like Soundwave wrote, Nintendo probably released its successor to Wii too late, not too early.
Although Michael Pachter is a grade A moron, his comment about Wii HD was probably right.
That being said, in the debate between 2012 and 2013, 2012 was the right choice. The year head-start is invaluable. The problem is that the launch line-up didn't provide many new experiences, and the high-profile "launch window" games were delayed. But, because of its head-start, Nintendo has the freedom to attend to these problems.
