zelda and metroid are very similar games too.
Both involve finding hidden items and using upgrades as a means of blocking progression.
Some people really like zelda's storyline while I think it's trite and superficial.
And some people (like myself) think metroid has better ambiance and mood.
It really depends on the entry though. Both last games were mediocre. Though I have to say, I played other m several times and enjoy about a third of the story, mostly the continuation of the super metroid story aspects.
