The XBox 360's popularity in North America and the PS3's popularity in "The Other" regions tend to cancel each other out (in the western markets the PS3 will only outsell the XBox 360 by 250,000 at the current rate); over the next several years the PS3 and XBox 360 will constantly reduce prices and release big name games which continue to cancel eachother out in the western world.
What this means is that most of the gains the PS3 can make on the XBox 360 are centered in the Japaneese market. It is possible that the PS3 can make it to 7 or 8 Million units sold in Japan but that certainly will not happen for quite some time, so I don't expect the PS3 to pass the XBox 360 until we near the end of this generation.
