I really hope the Wii comes in third. That's my fondest desire. I'm a huge Nintendo fan, and Nintendo is at their best when they are losing. The gamecube's is 10 times the system that the Wii is, why? Because Nintendo needed to push themselves just to keep it afloat.

I want the Gamecube strategy back at Nintendo. Hardware wise, they are unwilling to give it to me, but I think from a software standpoint, they can push some of their more "core" franchises. This E3 will show us what their strategy is with the U.

I think it would be better if Nintendo failed once more too, but for a completely different reason. Nintendo needs to hit a low in order to give them a humbling to alter their strategy to appeal to the mass market, like they did with the Wii. Gamecube sold only 21 million, and look how Nintendo responded because of it. The Wii became a sales phenomenon. If it takes another failure to motivate Nintendo to create revolutionary experiences like Wii Sports, so be it.

It's funny you say you want the Gamecube strategy back, because it's already here with the Wii U (well, minus the superior hardware like you said). Games like Pikmin 3, Zelda WW, Wonderful 101, etc.. They seem to be returning to the quirky niche games that populated the gamecube, complete with an odd complicatied controller to boot. It's like Nintendo took the worst aspects of the Wii (shoddy hardware), with the worst aspects of the Cube (weird, intimidating controller, niche games), and combined them. And people wonder why it's selling so badly..

I like the Gamecube stuff too, but for my money, nothing on Gamecube matches the feeling of newness and raw fun of Wii Sports, and the simple joy and multi experiences of Mario Kart, NSMB, Wii Play, etc..
