There's a peripheral for the 360 that alledges to give the console HDMI support. It costs $80, and is supposed to be an option for early 360 owners. I wish there was some kind of enhancer for the Wii. I can ignore it, but the Wii is kinda blurry on my LCD tv.

I quoted this because of the only thing that 720p would have noticeable benefit. The "blurry" image comes from upscaling the picture. If you have a 720p TV, you get the best possible picture quality with 720p signal. According to Nintendo, 720p could be possible, although with lower framerate. And just as Kyros said, issue isn't the resolution, problem is with framerate. Textures can be compressed, which would free memory, but decompressing requires processing power, which could be taken from polygon production, so it's not exactly a win-win situation. Anyway, 720p would mean sharper picture with lower framerate.
