Sony has to be very very careful that while they focus on the western world (and emerging markets) for the ps4 they also have to make sure they dont forget about their Japanese fans. We already saw the effect on the vita of them not securing good games for the japanese market and especially system selling games that were exclusive to the psp but are now on the 3DS. They have to make sure that the same continues with the ps4 with exclusives and deals with publishers/developers that they already had.
I generally think Japanese developers will do better with new IPs and innovation this new gen rather than the ps3/xbox360 era where they lay back and focussed solely on Japan. The console architecture will be much easier to develop for and in the last few years we have had a number of IP successes. I also think japanese developers are now more aware of the gaps in thinking in eastern gamers and western gamers and have a better idea of how to bridge the gap. While I still think western games and developers will likely be pre-eminent this gen I expect japanese games and devs to make up the wide gap and focus less just on the established IPs.
