While it´s certain that the global economy may have a role on the decline of the industry, it seems that the decline of interest from the casual players is what is really, or at least, for the most part, making for the decreasing console sales. Casuals seems to be flocking to smartphones and tablets, with their cheap, easy-to-play and social networking games. The ones who wants to try more deep experiences are going for PC gaming, which is a natural jump for a casual player who is used to play on gadgets
I really think that the future for this industry is not so bright. Consoles may well become again a niche market, or just cease to exist in less than two decades . some people even think that this will be the last generation of consoles, as the way we know them.
