The few seconds I see that show when at a friends house (flipping through channels) it seems like the characters are complete dorks and their dorky science humor seems terrible. Last episode I saw for 5 seconds they came in after playing paintball and were like out we suck and they probably got beat by kids. Can getting your ass kicked in paintball be funny? Sure but they can't replicate the type of humor like on King of the Hill when Hank, Dale, Bill, and Boomhauers go paint balling. Not trying to insult you for enjoying the show but I don't see what the big deal is. I suppose that type of humor doesn't entertain me one bit. |
well i watched A LOT of comedy series, and i mean A LOT so in a way i know a good show from a bad one and in a way i know what im talking about. see the big bang theory started out great, because they were nerds and scientists the jokes and humor was rather unique, even though it depended a lot on sex jokes (something sadly every comedy series does now) it still felt like a fresh and funny show, also the one character that made the show explode with popularity was sheldon cooper, a rather odd, arrogant but genius scientist. sheldon (espcially in the first couple of seasons) is really funny, he is like the joey(friends) or barney (HIMYM) of the show.
after the 3rd season the show started dripping in quality. one of the main aspects of comedy in the show was the trouble they all had with women, somehow though two characters leonard (the main character) and howard just became players. leonard not only did he could succesfuly get slamming hotties somehow, but slamming hotties started hitting on him all of a sudden. and howard managed to bag a slamming hottie with tits the size of your head. they also added another character. to offset that change they completely destroyed the fourth main character Raj, they made him an extremely desprate looser who is also a drunk, literally the guy always has alcohol in his hands. (he cant talk to women unless he is drunk), the guy is overly pathatic and not funny at all.
the reason for this change in my opinion is the change of demographic the show wants to go after, the first couple of seasons people who are gamers, WoW players, comic book fans and even scientists could relate to easily, the show became seccussful and they wanted to go after a wider demographic, the show wanted the characters to seem "cool" so give the guys hot girl friends and make one a looser so they can seem cool and confident compared to him.
the show now honestly i can say is a show for women, not that people who watch it are women, but the way the show is made, the jokes the structure of the episode's, the dailoge, and the characters and is now made to make women like the show, its made to be "hip". the change in the show's target audince is now very clear. and honestly its very very boring now. heck i barely bother watching it and if i do watch it i usually dont continue the episode.
to put it simple, the show was great, they added characters because they wanted a bigger audince, the show is now crap. dont bother with it expect the first few seasons, thats my advice
