Well,considering it did not matter last gen, I really can't see what would change this time around. You also have to factor in that the PS4/720 will be only between 4-8X more powerful than the Wii U whereas last gen they were closer to 15-20X.
As for 3rd party support,media, etc, Nintendo has an excellent social network that continues to grow and develop,they will most likely receive ports of major 3rd party PS4/ 720 releases and even if a slew of their first party games are only in 720p (which I'm sure will change) they will still look amazing (e.g look what Mario Galaxy did on the Wii) and probably outsell the majority of 1st party PS4/720 games.
