Too many people to reply to, so I'm not quoting anyone. You guys are all talking from the publisher's point of view. I'm talking about a consumer's point of view.

New computers will run old computer games that you have on your profile. New iPhones and new iPads run your old iOS games. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the same is true for Android devices.

I guess this is just really further proof to the "stone age" that consoles themselves live in. If they can't keep up with the advancing of technology and consumer expectations for owned digital content, then they truly are dinosaurs by nature. I only hope Microsoft tries to really change the game with the next Xbox, because continuing down this console path is continuing down a path to irrelevancy when you have other major devices growing your market instead.

Games a consumer purchases on a digital account should be available to play on any device that user has such an account tied to. Such is how the world has evolved outside of our slow console cycles, and such is the new standard of consumer expectations.

I congratulate Nintendo for at least trying to get this right, but Sony is outright blind to it. It makes me sad to see such a flaw.

It is very simple, it is not currently possible to have any native backwards compatability. All the games, if they actually ran properly on the PS3, were coded around the PS3's odd architecture, for games to be ported, they would basically have to be re-written, as they don't have the emulation software yet. It is not about publishers or Sony being greedy, it is just currently impossible

Sony knows that people want to play things on multiple devices, it is why I can get free Vita games with my PS3 games, and why there are a few games that you can buy on both. It is also how I could play any digital PSP games on my Vita and how I manage to play digital PS1 games on my Vita
