I guess this is just really further proof to the "stone age" that consoles themselves live in. If they can't keep up with the advancing of technology and consumer expectations for owned digital content, then they truly are dinosaurs by nature. I only hope Microsoft tries to really change the game with the next Xbox, because continuing down this console path is continuing down a path to irrelevancy when you have other major devices growing your market instead.

Games a consumer purchases on a digital account should be available to play on any device that user has such an account tied to. Such is how the world has evolved outside of our slow console cycles, and such is the new standard of consumer expectations.

 

I congratulate Nintendo for at least trying to get this right, but Sony is outright blind to it. It makes me sad to see such a flaw.

Sony isn't blind to it, it's technically impossible without recompiling the games.  Sony knows this and has mentioned it.  They did mention that you'll be able to stream PS3 games via Gaikai, they just either haven't given enough info or they mentioned you'll have to start from scratch.  So come E3 hopefully more will be clarified.  Will you have to purchase your games again to run them with Gaikai?  Will download titles only run via Gaikai?  Can I upload my saves to Gaikai?  No one knows the answer to this.  I personally think the rumour about PS++ is true and Sony is trying to weigh in charging yearly for BC via Gaikai.  If Gaikai can read the disc in my PS4 and let me stream it from their servers then I may pay an extra fee for it to put my PS3 to rest.  If it's PSN titles only with an extra fee then that'll weigh in heavily on how early I buy my PS4.  Best case scenario is that their patent on running old hardware on new hardware via a "BC Box" or whatever they called it in the patent is true and I can buy hardware attachments.
