Eh who knows. I hear a lot of people claim interest in Nintendo's games. Unfortunately, out of all my friends I am the only one who intends to buy a Nintendo console to play them. Some of them have even said it would be a 'dream' to play Nintendo's games on their 360s (or later on the next Xbox). So based on that, what I inferred is not that they want Nintendo to fail, but instead they want better hardware from Nintendo. They disliked the Wii and that sentiment continues with the Wii U, especially when you compare those systems to the PS3/360 and PS4/Xbox Next respectively. I'm inclined to think if the Wii U had more horsepower they would purchase one. That tablet is a turn off as well, but that's a whole other discussion.

Then there's the achievement system. People have becomes used to that this gen, and its omission on the Wii U has disappointed a lot of people, and I'm inclined to think it is part of the reason why they're not considering the system. Also, it affects them in other ways. For the few people I know who have a Wii U, instead of buying games like AC3 or even the new NFS game on the Wii U (which is the superior version), they're getting those games on PS3/360 in part because of the achievements. Most intend to get NFS later when it receives a price drop. They're well aware the Wii U has the best version, but they don't seem interested.

I'm not sure if this is a general trend and I'm not suggesting others hold similar views since the people I spoke to only make up about 30 in number. That's much too small a sample size to make any sort of generalization, in my opinion. But as I said before I don't think it is a situation where people want Nintendo to fail, it's more displeasure and the perception Nintendo is behind the times with respect to hardware and other areas such as online and achievements, etc.

I couldn't care less about either of those issues. I'm still happy with PS3's graphics and if Wii U can do better then that's fine. It doesn't have to be PS4 levels, in my opinion. I couldn't care less about trophies because I find trophy hunting can be boring, and I play games for fun and for no other reason. So no achievement system on the Wii U is not a problem for me either.

Gamecube had better hardware than PS2, almost full 3rd party support = worst selling Nintendo console. N64 had better graphics than PS1, and, in the end...

You see, it isn't about graphics. It isn't about third parties. Here, in the Internet, it's only about Nintendo itself. The majority of users on gaming forums people(Sony fans, mostly) don't like Nintendo and nothing will change that, it's really that simple.

That's why I suggested it had to do with my region and why I didn’t cast my net any wider by making generalization. Contrary to the NA region, the N64 did better than the PS1 in my area. Official data is tricky to come by, but the majority of people owned the N64 over the PS1. In fact, it was much harder for me to trade discs with people back then, but exchanging cartridges was very easy.

As for the PS2, one of the main reasons it did so well was because of the DVD player.  People flocked to it because it had dual roles. The GC had this minidisc set up and unlike the N64 it had a kiddy image (again in my area). I personally couldn’t care less for the Xbox back then, but most people saw it as a more powerful version to the PS2 in the sense that it was not a ‘kiddie system’. Also, people had the misconception that the PS2 was > GC in terms of power. I don’t know where that came from and it was only towards the middle of the cycle people started realizing that was BS.

I think Nintendo’s problems encompass a range of variables, and some of them tend to shift from generation to generation. I’m still holding to power as one (well at least with the Wii U). The difference is in past generations the N64 and GC were superior to PS systems but it was not significant, especially when you compare the gap between the Wii U and PS4/Xbox. The factors that kept the N64 back may not be the same that affected the Gamecube and Wii U. I got PS1 games quite often while we had to wait for long periods to play N64 games. I’m not sure if that put people off for Nintendo’s next console. And I know for sure people perceived the GC as a ‘kiddie system’ and that put them off. And core gamers seem burned by the Wii and that’s definitely affecting the Wii U despite Nintendo’s efforts to show it is catering for the hardcore this gen.

By the way .... I'm a Sony fan. :D And yes I like Nintendo. The othe guy .... not so much. :D

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS
