Why did ni no kuni and xenoblade go so bad in japan, compared to the west?

Platforms they were released upon. XenoBlade was released on a home console only. That's why it's sales are superior in the West. Had they released it on 3DS that would have been a different story. Ni no Kuni Probably should have been released on the PSP and PSV to sell better in Japan.
