As I see it there's been a few twists already in this story.
Step 1: Originally we had a lot of speculation on this site that had the next Xbox pegged as being more powerful. Sony was losing money and it would be impossible for them to fight an arms race with MS so they were going to have to go with an under-powered console to survive.
Step 2: Rumors of hardware started to leak, it put the two consoles in a similar ballpark.
Step 3: Sony announced their conference first. This changed another theory most had - Sony would not be launching in 2014, or with weaker hardware (see step 2).
Step 4: A few rumors tentatively suggest Sony might bump the ram up to 8GB. This is confirmed on 20/2.
Step 5. Sony fans go wild about the specs.
So we've gone from a possibly weaker system launching later to a possibly more powerful system launching first. I think it's funny already.
