Does anyone remember the 2004 E3 reveal of Twilight Princess? It was not only the arguably biggest media response to a game ever to come out of E3, people gave Miyamoto a standing ovation before he even said a word. The game didn't release until 2006, so a reveal this soon doesn't mean the game has to necessarily come out next year. The reveal also wouldn't be some tired promise of things to come with nothing in-between. We are getting a glimpse at a 3D Wii U Mario this year, Mario Kart U, X, and whatever else Nintendo has up their sleeve. The Wind Waker HD was even confirmed to be out by this fall season. There is a slew of content heading to the Wii U, and just a glance at the top notch visual fidelity of Zelda U could satisfy many critical consumers for the next year or two. It will be an assurance of something in the future that will still impress many fans and consumers.
More importantly, it's a proving ground that while visuals are important, getting to photorealism isn't going to be the defining factor for the future of the industry. It won't solve everything and it won't guarantee a slew of content, but it will go a long way into stealing away any conversation around the PS4 and 720. That alone has to be a good thing for Wii U.
