Well Capcom's internal numbers are obviously better than VGC's... So time to reconcile the two...
Resident Evil PS:
Resident Evil PS 2,750
VGC says 5.05M
Resident Evil DC Dual Shock PS 1,200
Resident Evil Director's Cut PS 1,130
2.75 + 1.20 + 1.13 = 5.08
5.05 and 5.08 are close enough that they could originate from the same source.
Other overtracked games also had special editions, for which VGC sometimes only has Japan sales. Resident Evil 2 had a Dual Shock edition as well, for example, which sold .26M in Japan. 4.96 + .26 = 5.22. 600K sold in Europe and America? Possible.
So it is possible most or all of the older, seemingly grossly overtracked titles, are simply including special editions, and the seperate special editions pages could be deleted.
Recent games like RE4 Wii, Dead Rising and MHF2 are simply mis-tracked and can be corrected.
Of the older games, most of the undertracked games have Japan-only data on VGC. Only Onimusha 3 and RE: Outbreak are undertracked among older games.
And there are some titles on here missing from VGC's million-seller list. It would be nice to have Mega Man 2, 3 and X added to the million-seller list, but ioi may have seen this data before and want territorial breakdowns for it.
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
