If the next XBox and PS4 charge for online play, will you get a WiiU instead?

The choice was whether or not you would settle for inferior specs if it meant free to play online.  I was seeing how important free online play is.

I understand that but its a very simplistic approach, specs aren't the only difference. Features and software will be the major factors to draw someone, brand loyalty and general interest level will also count. The amount required to play online would also bear significance.

If someone is driven away from purchasing a console only because of pay to play with a standard, relatively small sum, then they weren't really interested to begin with, in my opinion.

I wouldn't go that far - XBLG isn't exactly a small sum. For only 4 years I paid the same amount for XBLG as I did for the console itself. And that's only for myself - I have a brother that I shared the console with, and we'd need to pay double that if we wanted to use our own user names.

Maybe others aren't as tight on money as I am, but assuming they stay with this model, it's bad enough that I'm probably done with Microsoft, for good.

Not being able to have more than one user on one subscription is ridiculous for sure. And annoying, like when you're playing Resident Evil 5 or 6 splitscreen, one has to play a default player even if you have more users available on the xbox dashboard, you need two separate subscriptions to use two "proper" players. That's really stupid and ruins the experience for me.

As I've been saying earlier though, for me its not a problem since I never play console games online (and only rarely play console games at all). I can see that it probably annoys a lot of people but I can't imagine that its the deciding factor for most people who choose not to buy an xbox.
