Here's what I want from Ps4: revolutionary games and revolutionary ways to play them. Forget price because it will get a price cut. Social only enhances if there is reason to play. So jrpgs, action, sandboxes, .... are the cusp of everything else.
The concepts that currently allow for technological revolution are: Graphic Detail, Control Input, and Various Output. Ram and bus speed are nice for developers in the same way as bluray. They allow developers to spend time focusing on important matters instead of trying to fit data in an overcrowded space. Which makes development simpler but doesnt add much to games beyond draw distance and on screen objects. In terms of Graphics, Input, and Output, what does Ps4 offer us?
Output- We get: Remote Play, 3Dtv, and 4k Res. Google translate: $250, $1000, $5000.
Focus on 1080p and Vita. 1080p is standard. I love it and its all the res I care about. Bare minimum. Remote Play is nearly revolutionary, if it werent for Nintendo perfecting it a year ahead. The wi fi capabiliity is revolutionary if it works on all games from anywhere. Which according to Sony World Wide President, it wont. "it works from anywhere, as far as you have a wi-fi connection from your Vita to the PlayStation 4. It needs to be wi-fi. However, for some games, when you play or connect from far away, it accumulates latency. Some games may not be playable, like fighting games or shooting games. But some other slower paced games will be playable. As long as you have home routers anywhere in your home, you can play every PlayStation 4 game."
Input- We get: Dual Shock 4, Move, and Vita. Move is already available. Dual Shock 4 has advanced by adding a colorful motion tracker and a small touch space. I can see the motion tracker being useful in as manythings as kinect. Party games and kids play. The touch space looks to add the same usefulness as a touchpad on a netbook. Controlling a cursor. The Vita is the obvious input of choice. Its lack of L2/R2 and stick clicks can be mapped to the back touch space. And excellent grips can be purchased to make the Vita ergonomic. Speaking from experience, visual touch on HD hardware brings all of your special abiliies out of the pause menu and into the game. Vita has what it needs but Nintendo beat them there at $0 extra and with a larger screen.
Graphics- Theres not much to say for Sony's leap in graphics this time. Current Sony graphics are breathtaking as is. The Ps4 is better. Knack didnt look like pixar. Driveclub had detail but not photo realism. Only a wedbush analyst could say the graphics are revolutionary.
Does Playstation 4 revolutionize GAMES?
