You can consider that the touch screen on the U is intrusive.

You can say that forcing motion controls on a zelda game is annoying and degrades the overall experience.

But you just can't call either a gimmick.

A gimmick would be a love tester, which randomly gives results. It's a gimmick because it has really no value, it's just flash.
