I barely play on the consoles. Most of my time is on computers or handhelds. Recently played Xenoblade and Tales of Graces F though. Xenoblade the controller fit like a glove. My left hand rested comfortably on the numchuk and i could put one hand hanging over the edge of the couch while the other inside my pouch in my sweater. Whatever I wanted. had no discomfort at all. I picked up PS3 controller and found myself not liking the left stick position. It felt like I had to stretch my thumb a little. I found myself constantly resting my thumb back on the d-pad. But if you played the game you would know that I can't move at all with the D-pad, its essentially worthless in that game. All it does is let me switch characters. After a couple hours I didn't notice it, but did again the following day ect. I pick up a 360 controller and just rest my finger where they will. don't even try anything and it rest perfectly on the buttons for right thumb and stick for left thumb. The two most used things in a game. no stretching involved. Now the 360 d-pad sucks ass, but that's not the story. It's about comfort and placement of buttons. not the comfort of the controller, but the comfort of where you fingers naturally rest while holding it. There is no stretching involved with the 360 controller. Now seeing as the entire gaming world seems to be FPS fans these days you will probably bring up the right stick being in a bad spot or same spot on both. Well I don't play them very often or at all. Only a few times with friends for fun, locally. So my right stick is only used briefly when I quick flick it to rotate camera slightly if need be.
So muscle memory? sorry but thats a piss poor excuse. I don't want to have to train my hands to feel comfortable. They shoud just feel comfortable. I don't have a wii u, so i have no idea how that feels. Picked it up at best buy once, but with their little strap holding it in place on the counter it makes it impossible to really get a feel for it. But I own every console, besides Wii U, and I play on them on. So i have no muscle memory, and don't plan on it. I just notice that its uncomforatble initially every time I pick up a ps3 controller. The classic controller for wii sucks too. the gamecube controller is awesome. The 360 controller is great. The numchuck and wiimote is great. the dualshock controllers have the sticks in wrong place. I shouldn't have to use something for hours on end to be comfortable. |
Why would I read such a long post on thus subject?
But, I am glad you speak for the world on what is a natural position of the thumb.
