Happens to me all the time. But can you really blame them?

The video game industry is not (and probably never will) as big a the movie or music industry and thus all the gaming news we heard every day is pretty much non-existent for anyone who's not interested in the matter.

In my country for example, the only few times when I see a video game related news on the papers in during E3 or really big announcements (like the Wii U's release date and price), and I'm pretty sure most of the viewers just skip this page.

For most people video games are just simple that, they don't know the existence of different platforms so when they see a Mario game they think is a PS platform because they simple don't know, and the word "Playstation" might be the only console they know about video games.

As for a funny story, well I was playing God of War III on a friends house and his aunt asked if that was the "Nintendo" (like I said that's probably the only console manufacturer she's ever heard about).

What?! Have you seen the horribe position the music industry is in right now? The Video Game industry is certainly bigger than the music one. I'm not sure about movies though

Horrible position? What are you talking about? Millions and millions of people listen to mainstream music everyday and websites are full on stories about new albums and gossips about music artist. I'm not talking about money here, this is strictly popularity and the impact in the media.

If you are talking about quality, then yes, it's in a horrible position, but that doesn't take away it's popularity.

I work at a radio station and we get weekly sales numbers for albums and singles, and the sales are absoloutley pitiful. Plenty of people play video games. Not everyone is ignorant like the OP makes it out to be.
