Sony lining up GG's main franchise to launch their new console + Killzone: Mercenaries on PSV would certainly make that claim true.
Or maybe their new IP will launch the console. They've been working on it since before KZ3, as far as I know. I just imagine they'd hype a new IP for more than ~8 months before release, so Killzone 4 seems more likely. Plus, between Mercenaries and Killzone 4, it'd be a few months straight of Sony going "KILLZONE! KILLZONE! KILLZONE!" That'd be a big deal for GG.
And we all know what a launch window can do for a franchise's sales and recognition (see: Resistance, Halo - only Bungie capitalized on that momentum while Insomniac squandered it - and to be honest, Resistance 1 wasn't actually all that good). I think this is what Sony needs (and wants) to turn Killzone into the flagship FPS franchise they've been trying to get all these years.
