18. Moon, 2009, Duncan Jones

Sci-fi at it's best. In the near future all our enegry comes from fusion power. The helium-3 fuel for this is most easily mined on the moon. Sam mans one of the harvesting stations on the moon in a 4 year contract with only Gerty, a robot AI to keep him company. Near the end of his contract things start going wrong and he slowly discovers the reality of his isolation.
I don't want to give away more in case you haven't seen it yet. A smart sci-fi movie that makes you think about what it is to be human and how you would deal with being isolated for years. The attention to detail is perfect with a great soundtrack that keeps you immersed to the end. They didn't have the budget to simulate 1/6th gravity indoors but it's not necessary, the movie looks and works great regardless. It's one of those movies I immediately started again with the commentary track to find out how the sets were made and listen to the thoughts of the director. More of these please.
