Nintendo lost the casual crowd, most of Wii's installbase were casuals who were never really committed to the system, those people are into mobile gaming now. When Wii came out it was something new, WiiU GamePad is basically just a tablet, people have already seen that.
I'm afraid it will never be a big hit with the casuals nor the hardcore gamers, it would be a success if it reached N64s numbers.
