Actually that's a bad analogy as alcohol is not inherently bad. There are no reasons why not to drink alcohol if it is done in moderation. Veg is healthy. Alcohol does not have the same benefits, but that does not mean it has to then be bad. Can I ask why Jesus and everyone else back then was allowed to drink but you're not? I don't know much about the mormon religion but I do know the few stories such as water to wine etc. |
I agree alcohol in moderation is not bad, but still nothing like a vegetable. That was my point.
as far as why mormons don't drink... it is kind of hard to explain over the internet, but I guess I will try. Mormons believe in both physcal and spritual health. We also believe that the two are linked, if one is harmed, the other is harmed as well. Now, as you said, Jesus drank wine as did all sorts back in biblical days, but the bible also states in many places how an excess of wine is bad.
In modern times, ease of access to alcohol and other harmful substances prompted the word of wisdom which is kind of a law of health that mormons follow. Basically, it is a different time, and to prevent bad things from happening we are just told to stay away completely.
That is the bare bones of it anyway. Here is a better explanation if you want it.
