Many people drink for the taste. No one buys a $500 bottle of whiskey to get drunk. 

You sure there aren't tastier non-alcoholic drinks you can buy with $500? Just saying though. I got one, chocolate milk.

Depends on personal preferences. The advantage with both wine and whiskey is the complexities involved in the flavours.

Chocolate milk is just chocolate + milk, whereas a good wine can have hints of oat, vanilla, wild berry and other flavours all delicately crafted into a drink. Plus if you have ever tasted good Parisian chocolate, the industrial crap used quickly loses it's appeal. Give the dark chocolate by Michel Cluizel a try and you'll see what I mean. Or Valrhona.
