Vita may not be selling well, but if you see it as a place holder for that space, awaiting connectivity with the PS4, you could argue that Sony have deliberately released the Vita 'early' in order to have it in place for when the PS4 releases. Nintendo has something that people seem to want, and Sony doesn't: lots of great games. Not so long ago people said that 3DS wasn't more than a PSP with a gimmick, and look at the sales.
PS: If you think Nintendo has developed the WiiU gamepad because Sony has move, then you don't know the development cycles of the console manufacturers. Apple has much more to do with WiiU gamepad than Sony.
