I have to agree--come talk to me when "active users" is defined as once a month and, even better, once a week, like, I dunno, people that watch cable TV, etc. Defining it as once ever 8-months is patently ridiculous and was clearly arrived at to grossly inflate the numbers.

it's pretty normal to count 8 months as active.. Hotmail/Live mail set your account inactive after 8,5 months.. Google does it at 9 months.. Twitter has a 6 month policy.. Ea has 24 months.. 8 months is fine

Good enough for you? It's a common thing.

Already addressed this - email is not the same.

Compare it to other PAID services  like cable/internet/TiVo/Netflix/Amazon Prime/Hulu Plus - look at those and how they identify their active users.

Once you stop paying for those services (have no clue about hulu or amazon) they just stop being useable unlike the 3, 6 and 12 month pre purchases of live. You can't compare them either. You could compare them to mobile plans? You could stop paying but you're locked into a contract so that is even different.

I just don't see whats wrong with 8 months. They could have gone a year.
