Who gives a rat's fuzzy end-quarters about what term gets used? I play video-games, so yeah, I'm fine with 'gamer'. I'm certainly not going to type out "people who play video-games as a hobby" every single time, not when I can just type 'gamers'.
People make way too big a deal over stuff like this. It's just a word used to represent more words. That's all. "I don't want to be called a gamer because they're bad and they have no lives and blah blah blah," is just people assigning their own narrow-minded values. Is a 'gamer' someone who lives in their basement and plays 18 hours a day? Sure--but so what? It's ALSO the guy who plays a few hours on the weekends, or who plays a hour or so after work. Why? BECAUSE THEY ALL PLAY GAMES.
It's kind of annoying the way people use the term to separate themselves or make themselves feel superior. "Oh, I'm not a GAY-MER because I have a life!"--oh shut the fuck up. That's like saying you're not a human being because Nazis happened. Stop being sanctimonious and deal with it.
It's just a word for people who play games. That's all. Kind of like the term 'drama queens' for those who get all huffy over simple descriptive words.
