Those would be the Mayans, and there are still millions of them here. But since they never seem to be able to convince you people that they never predicted the end of the world, I guess they all might as well be dead.

If they never predicted the end of the world, then where did the idea that world was going to end in 2012 actually come from? 

in short: it was just the time when the Mayan calender system run out, it was the end of their calender and some people interpreteted it as the end of the world. That it did happen before and they would just begin a new calendar cycle. Actually the Mayans even predicted things that would happen millions of years from now, so predicting the end of the world before that would have not made much sense anyway.
