maybe some people just don't want to have more than one console under their tv? not everyone thinks consoles look beautiful and not everyone wants to horde them in their livingroom to play different games they bought once. if you have a nice looking livingroom, console can look very misplaced in that. if i buy a ferrari i do that because i like ferraris, if i buy a console i do that to play games on it and not because i like the look of consoles so much.
people want to sell their old console to get a start capital for the new console. even 50 bucks can be much for some people, if a kid or an adult.
gaming isn't the hobby with the cheapest entry fee
but personally i absolutely don't care about backwards compatibility and yes gamers are very good in complaining a lot about their own hobby.
