Huh? The DS3 (and Sixaxis) have always had analog L2 and R2 triggers. The fact is these buttons can have more than one degree of input unlike the WiiU ZL and ZR triggers, which are either pressed or un-pressed.
And yes, there are other instances besides racing games that can take advantage of the level of pressure applied. The examples I gave in my previous post may not have used the "full analogue spectrum", but the difference between lightly or fully squeezed already gives each button added functionality beyond a single digital button press. How important that is to someone is subjective.
